This sub-project aimed to improve access to justice for poor, vulnerable and marginalized women in Uganda. The Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET) enhanced the capacity of selected Parliamentary Committees on gender justice and gender-responsiveness and reviewed gender-related Bills for compliance with women’s and human rights’ standards. In collaboration with the National Association of Women Judges, UWONET further strengthened judicial engagement to support women’s rights at national and district levels by establishing a partnership between judicial officers and the Women’s Movement and enhanced the focus of Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS) mechanisms on women’s rights at the national and district levels. Finally, UWONET strengthened the capacity of customary informal justice actors on women’s rights and gender-responsive delivery of justice by delivering training sessions and conducting dialogues between communities, formal JLOS actors, and cultural and religious justice leaders.
