This sub-project aims to improve access to justice for poor, vulnerable and marginalized women in Uganda. The Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET) is enhancing the capacity of selected Parliamentary Committees on gender justice and gender-responsiveness, and reviewing gender-related Bills for compliance with women’s and human rights’ standards. In collaboration with the National Association of Women Judges, UWONET is further strengthening judicial engagement to support women’s rights at national and district levels by establishing a partnership between judicial officers and the Women’s Movement, and enhancing the focus of Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS) mechanisms on women’s rights at the national and district levels. Finally, UWONET is strengthening the capacity of customary informal justice actors on women’s rights and gender-responsive delivery of justice by delivering training sessions and conducting dialogues between communities, formal JLOS actors, and cultural and religious justice leaders.
