The International Development Law Organization (IDLO) expresses its deep concern about the suspension of the democratic process in Myanmar. The current state of emergency jeopardizes hard-won progress on rule of law, human rights and participatory governance which are key to Myanmar’s democratic transition. IDLO joins the international community in encouraging a peaceful resolution to the crisis that reflects the will of the people of Myanmar, upholds democratic norms and processes and fully respects human rights and the rule of law, including the rights to freedom of expression, freedom of peaceful assembly and association, and access to information.
