IDLO welcomed the State of Qatar as its 36th Member Party emphasizing their joint commitment to the rule of law and sustainable development.
The accession took place with the deposit of the instrument by His Excellency the Ambassador of Qatar to Italy, Mr. Abdulaziz Ahmed Almalki Aljehni, on 24 May 2019 at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Building on a history of collaboration, Qatar’s membership will deepen the partnership between IDLO and the State of Qatar.
IDLO has partnered with the State of Qatar at the Commission on the Status of Women in New York in 2018 and 2019 to advocate for gender justice through strengthened women’s rights as well as women’s increased participation in the justice sector. IDLO strongly welcomes Qatar’s commitment to advancing the rule of law as a foundation upon which to protect and empower the most vulnerable: children, youth and women.
This engagement aligns with IDLO and Qatar’s shared vision of the rule of law and access to justice - as enshrined in SDG 16 – as a driver for economic inclusion, and social and economic progress. Other common priorities include anti-corruption, the right to health, economic empowerment and environmental justice.
IDLO looks forward to continued collaboration with the State of Qatar in advancing sustainable development through the rule of law.
